Hygienist

Why is a hygienist necessary?

A hygienist completes an assessment of the overall condition of
the asbestos, where fibres could be breathed in by workers,
where asbestos is likely to crumble and go to dust and if they
can be disturbed.

Copies of the completed assessment are given to all OHS Reps
and a copy is also placed in the workplace asbestos registrar to
be reviewed every five years.

Asbestos Contractors by law are not allowed to advise if a
particular material is or contains asbestos.
It is deemed to be a conflict of interest therefore a hygienist is
important.
